Botox Overview

What Is Botox?

Botox is an injectable cosmetic treatment used to reduce facial wrinkles, lines, and creases to create smoother, more youthful-looking skin. In some cases, Botox can also be used to treat medical conditions like migraines, hyperhidrosis, and eye problems.

How Does Botox Work?

Botox is an injectable substance containing the active ingredient botulinum toxin type A. This neurotoxin, which is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, blocks the facial muscles from communicating with the nerves. As a result, the muscles cannot contract, which causes the skin to become smoother, greatly reducing facial lines and wrinkles in the process.

What are the Benefits of Botox?

Botox treatment can offer patients some or all of the following benefits:

  • Smoother, more youthful skin
  • Reduced wrinkles, lines, creases, and folds
  • Non-invasive treatment
  • Quick results
  • Increased self-confidence
  • Alleviates certain medical conditions

What Should I Expect During the Procedure?

If you’re interested in Botox treatment, your first step will be a quick consultation with one of our expert providers at SVIA Medspa. During the meeting, they’ll discuss the treatment with you, answer any questions you have, and ask you about your specific aesthetic goals. They’ll also ask about your medical history, allergies, and medications.

Botox treatment is performed as an outpatient procedure, and it can be done right at our medical spa. First, your injection specialist will apply a topical anesthetic to the target area. Then, using a very fine needle, they will inject the Botox into your skin. In total, the procedure only takes around 15 to 30 minutes to complete, and you can head home as soon as it’s finished.

How Long Is the Recovery Time?

There is no recovery downtime necessary after undergoing Botox in Los Gatos Spa or Botox in San Mateo location; you should be able to resume your normal routine immediately. However, you will need to avoid rubbing or massaging the treatment area for several days.

How Long Will It Take To See Results After Botox Treatment?

Most patients start to see the results of Botox treatment after one to three days, but it can take up to two weeks for the complete effects to be visible. Typically, the results of Botox will last for three to four months before they start to fade.

How Much Does BOTOX Cost?

The cost of BOTOX injections varies depending on several factors, such as:

  • The number of units used
  • Treatment sites
  • The type of medical professional giving the injections

The average cost of a BOTOX injection procedure was around $408 to $466 in 2020-2023, ranging from $100 to $2,800 per treatment. However, the cost can be higher depending on the duration of the results and the complementary therapies included.
